PORT ANGELES — Keith Roberson’s assault-with-a-firearm case remains set for jury trial for the week of Sept. 19.
Roberson, 55, will claim self-defense to charges of first-degree assault while armed with a firearm and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon while armed with a firearm, his attorney said Friday.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said Roberson fired a semi-automatic handgun at a South Barr Road resident in the early morning hours of Feb. 17.
After missing the man by about 8 feet, Roberson allegedly entered a residence where children were sleeping and pointed the gun at another man, saying, “If I’m going out, I’m not going out alone,” according to affidavit for probable cause.
Deputies arrested Roberson in a nearby carport.
Roberson has maintained his innocence. He remained Wednesday in the Clallam County jail on $250,000 bail.
Defense attorney Ralph Anderson said his client may testify in the one-week trial, which is scheduled to begin Sept. 19 in Clallam County Superior Court.
Roberson rejected a plea offer from the state in July. He asked his attorney to get one final settlement offer from Deputy Prosecuting Attorney April King, Anderson said.
“We’ll take one last shot,” Anderson said in a Friday interview.
Meanwhile, both attorneys will prepare for trial and work together to schedule an interview with a final witness, according to the minutes of the status hearing.
The state’s list of witnesses includes a dozen law enforcement officers and several South Barr Road residents.
