Retrial of murder case to be set at hearing

State Supreme Court denies reconsideration after it was overturned

PORT ANGELES — Dennis Marvin Bauer, the Port Angeles man convicted by a jury of three counts of aggravated murder on Jan. 10, 2022, will be retried in Clallam County Superior Court.

Bauer’s new trial date is expected to be set during a hearing at 9 a.m. Aug. 29. He appeared in court Wednesday and remained Thursday at the Clallam County Jail in lieu of $3 million bail.

Bauer, 56, was sentenced to three life terms without the possibility for parole for killing trucking company owner Darrell Iverson, 57, his son, Jordan, 27, and Jordan’s girlfriend, Tiffany May, 26, on Dec. 26, 2018. He also was found guilty of seven counts of first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and six counts of possession of a stolen firearm.

The firearms charges added an additional 42½ years to Bauer’s sentence.

The trial took 29 days, including jury selection.

Immediately after his sentencing, Bauer’s attorney, Karen Unger, filed a petition with the state Court of Appeals asking it to review Judge Lauren Erickson’s decision.

On Dec. 16, 2024, the appeals court overturned Bauer’s conviction and sent the case back to the county for retrial.

The following March, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office asked the state Supreme Court for a reconsideration. However, it denied the request on June 30 and sent it back to county.

An arrest warrant was issued July 2, and Bauer was transported from the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center in Connell so he could appear in Clallam County Superior Court on Wednesday.

An accomplice, Ryan Warren Ward, refused to testify against Bauer and received three life sentences without the possibility of parole.

A second accomplice, Kallie Ann LeTellier, who agreed to testify, pleaded guilty and received a 35-year prison term.

Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michele Devlin handled the case against Bauer.
