Port Angeles woman arrested after alleged stabbing

PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles woman was arrested on investigation of first-degree assault after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend with a knife in the chest.

Charlotte Sue Whalen, 51, was being held Thursday in the Clallam County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond. She was booked on investigation of first-degree assault-domestic violence, a Class A felony punishable by up to life in prison or a $50,000 fine.

A 58-year-old man who lives in the 1600 block of Black Diamond Road in Port Angeles called 911 about 7 p.m. Wednesday to report the incident. Whalen fled the scene after the alleged attack, according to a press release from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy located Whalen near the 100 block of Hoare Road, and the deputy and a Port Angeles Police officer took her into custody without further incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Meanwhile, two Elwha Tribal Police officers responded to Black Diamond Road and found a man with a life-threatening stab wound. A sheriff’s deputy also responded, and the three began life-saving measures, the sheriff’s office said.

Medics responded shortly thereafter and the man was transported to a nearby location so he could be flown to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau assumed control the investigation, which is still ongoing.
