Port Angeles police arrest man after fatal shooting

PORT ANGELES — A man who police say shot and killed his father Thursday afternoon has been arrested.

Shay Clinton Darrow, 27, of Port Angeles was booked into the Clallam County jail for investigation of second-degree murder at 3:32 p.m.

Port Angeles Deputy Chief Jason Viada said Darrow reported the shooting at 1:10 p.m. and was taken into custody at 1:17 p.m. without incident. Viada didn’t know what time the shooting happened, only when it was reported.

Viada said he could not discuss any statement made by Darrow during the 9-1-1 call.

Police do not yet know the motive for the shooting, he said. Viada could not confirm the name of the victim, though he did say the victim is Darrow’s father and that family has been notified.

“We have not yet verified the identity of the victim,” Viada said. “Officers are continuing to investigate the scene in this case.”

Neighbors identified the victim as Clint Darrow, who owns Van Goes Take & Bake Pizza at 814 S. C St.

He is the co-owner of the house with Iva Johanson, according to county records.

Efforts to reach Darrow’s family Thursday were unsuccessful.

Viada said police arrested Darrow near the intersection of Eighth and Vine streets.

“I don’t know why he went there,” Viada said. “That’s where officers located him.”

Viada said he didn’t know if Darrow lived with his father but did know he lived in Port Angeles.

Van Goes was closed following the shooting. A sign said employees were shopping.

Police were still at the scene of the shooting, 201 W. Ninth St., at press time Thursday.
