Port Angeles man charged with murder to have hearing Feb. 21

PORT ANGELES — Marquise Gregory Hagans-Moore, who is accused of killing a Port Angeles woman in September, appeared in Clallam County Superior Court on Friday for a status hearing.

Superior Court Judge Simon Barnhart set Hagans-Moore’s next court date for 9 a.m. Feb. 21 after conferring with deputy prosecuting attorney Steven Johnson and defense attorney William Payne.

Hagans-Moore, 26, pleaded not guilty on Nov. 19, 2024, to second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Rebecca Rule-Cowles. The charge came with with domestic violence and firearm enhancements.

He faces life imprisonment, plus five years, and a maximum fine of $50,000 or a combination of both.

A jury trial is scheduled to start May 5 and is anticipated to last two weeks.

On Sept. 29, 2024, Hagans-Moore turned himself in at the Pierce County Corrections facility in Tacoma, where he told authorities he had killed his roommate in Port Angeles. Rule-Cowles was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound by Port Angeles police officers when they conducted a welfare check on a house in the 300 block of East Whidby Avenue.

Hagans-Moore remains in Clallam County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
