SEQUIM — A Port Angeles man has been arrested on investigation of possession of dangerous weapons and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm following a domestic violence incident.
Travis Nicolaysen, 40, was arrested Friday in the 9000 block of Old Olympic Highway on Friday after a Clallam County Sheriff’s deputy in field training investigated a call for domestic violence in Sequim.
Nicolaysen remained in the Clallam County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $55,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office said Nicolaysen had gone to his estranged wife’s residence in the 100 block of Schmith Road and reportedly pushed her down and knocked a phone out of her hand to prevent her from calling 911.
As Nicolaysen was leaving, he allegedly retrieved a gun from his vehicle’s glove box, stood in the driveway with the weapon pointed downward and attempted to get his estranged wife to come outside, the Sheriff’s Office said. He continued to yell and make verbal insults before he left the property, the agency added.
Sequim Police officers later located Nicolaysen’s vehicle on Old Olympic Highway, where he was taken into custody.
After a search warrant was obtained by telephone, a deputy recovered a firearm, multiple magazines, a bag of ammunition, suspected controlled substances, Nicolaysen’s identification and several dangerous weapons, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Staff at the jail discovered burglary tools in Nicolaysen’s wallet, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Further investigation revealed Nicolaysen is a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm, the Sheriff’s Office said.
While he was initially booked for investigation of fourth-degree assault-domestic violence, the weapons charges were added later, the Sheriff’s Office said.
