Port Angeles man arrested amid investigation of string of crimes

PORT ANGELES — A 21-year-old Port Angeles man accused of stealing a van in Sequim and fleeing police last week in Port Angeles awoke to law enforcement officers who were ready to arrest him on several warrants.

Clallam County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Port Angeles Police Department officers arrested Nicholas T. Roberts on Friday at about noon on a felony warrant, a pay or appear warrant, a failure to appear warrant and a Department of Corrections warrant, according to a press release.

The state Department of Corrections told investigators Roberts was known to frequent a home in the area of the 100 block of West Park Avenue in Port Angeles, the press release stated.

When deputies arrived, they were told Roberts was sleeping in a bedroom. The homeowner gave law enforcement permission to enter the home to arrest Roberts, according to the press release.

Port Angeles officers helped escort people out of the house and set up a perimeter because of Roberts’ history of fleeing.

After deputies woke Roberts, he attempted to run, the news release said. After a brief struggle he was placed under arrest.

He was on escape status with Corrections and is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office, PAPD and the Sequim Police Department for a recent string of crimes including auto theft, burglaries, vehicle prowls and felony eluding, according to the news release.

New charges will be forwarded to the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office for charging when investigations are complete.

Anyone with information about Robert’s alleged criminal activity is asked to call 360-417-2459.
