Port Angeles man accused of attacking woman on ODT

PORT ANGELES — A 27-year-old Port Angeles man is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 10 in Clallam County Superior Court on one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault after a woman was assaulted Tuesday on the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Eric A. Shocknesse was arrested Tuesday in the 1400 block of East Front Street after the assault near Ennis Creek. He remained in Clallam County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail on Friday.

Port Angeles police officers investigated at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday a reported assault near Ennis Creek south of the Olympic Discovery Trail, according to a police department press release.

Officers located the victim, who was bleeding heavily from head wounds. She told them a man used a rock to hit her several times in the head, the release stated.

Police said that investigation revealed the struggle began near the creek bank and that the man pulled the woman into the creek during the attack. Officers then tracked him south up the old Rayonier access road and found him on East Front Street.
