Police investigate after van driver attempts to run down pedestrians

Surveillance video shows vehicle make U-turn, drive down sidewalk in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Police Department is investigating after a surveillance camera captured footage of a van apparently attempting to run over two people walking on a sidewalk.

The police department is looking to identify the pedestrians who ran out of the way as the van barreled toward them Thursday.

The video, captured by The Warehouse on the 400 block of East Second Street, shows the incident happening at about 12:30 p.m.

The video shows the van driving past the two pedestrians, making a U-turn in an intersection — cutting off an oncoming vehicle — and then driving down the sidewalk.

The two pedestrians run out of the way as the vehicle swerves toward them.

The van then turns around again and stops in the middle of the road. The two pedestrians then appear to have words with the driver of the van.

Cpl. Sky Sexton said Sunday that police have not identified the driver or the pedestrians and that there is no known motive at this time.

“They know who the vehicle belongs to, but they don’t know who is driving the van and no one is coming forward as a victim,” he said. “It’s an open investigation.”

Anyone with information about the pedestrians or the incident itself are encouraged to call the Port Angeles Police Department at 360-452-4545. Officer Jackson VanDusen is handling the case.
