PORT ANGELES — The September trial dates for a man accused of five felonies in two cases for alleged attacks on a Clallam Transit bus and in the Clallam County jail have been pushed back to October.

Riley Edge White, 59, of Port Angeles is charged in one case with first-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of second-degree assault.

Port Angeles police said White assaulted an 80-year-old woman and a Clallam Transit bus driver who came to her defense before attempting to commandeer the bus in west Port Angeles on May 28.

White is also charged with custodial assault for allegedly punching a corrections officer in the Clallam County jail July 11.

He remained in jail Saturday on $10,000 bond, according to the jail roster.

Defense attorney Harry Gasnick of Clallam Public Defender reported Friday that he was still waiting for a report from Dr. Kenneth Muscatel, the Seattle neuropsychologist who was appointed to evaluate White.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Brian Coughenour reset the jail-assault trial for Oct. 24 and the bus assault trial for Oct. 31.

A status hearing for both matters is set for Sept. 2.

White’s trials were previously scheduled to commence Sept. 12 and Sept. 26.

A Clallam Transit surveillance video shows a man kicking 80-year-old Angeline Olsen in the face and then attacking the driver, Joy Crummett.

Crummett managed to escape from a chokehold and deactivate the battery before White could drive away, police said.

One of the second-degree assault charges is for strangulation, and the other carries a special allegation that White caused the reckless infliction of substantial bodily harm on a vulnerable victim.
