New trial date set in Port Angeles stabbing case

PORT ANGELES — John Greystoke, a Port Angeles man charged with stabbing a roommate in the abdomen, has a new trial date.

Greystoke, 50, is now scheduled to go to trial Jan. 30. He is charged with first-degree assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing a man who had been staying at his apartment in the 800 block of South C Street on April 24.

A Friday status hearing was rescheduled for this Friday because Greystoke was trying to decide whether he would represent himself at trial, according to the minutes of the hearing.

Greystoke told a judge Dec. 9 that he intended to plead guilty but that he wanted a “better deal” from the state.

Port Angeles police said part of the victim’s intestines were hanging out of his torso from a severe laceration. The man recovered from his injuries.

Greystoke’s trial has been delayed to allow time for a mental health evaluation.

A Western State Hospital psychologist determined Dec. 1 that Greystoke is competent to stand trial, saying he has the capacity to understand the nature of his case and to assist in his own defense.
