Naked man found in Port Angeles house appears in court

PORT ANGELES — A man accused of breaking into a Port Angeles home and lying naked in the resident’s bed appeared in Clallam County Superior Court on Monday.

Bail for Robert Manley, 51, of Port Angeles was set at $5,000. Charges are expected to be filed today.

The Port Angeles Police Department has recommended charges of residential burglary and third-degree malicious mischief.

The victim told police he returned home Friday night to his home on the 600 block of East Second Street to find a naked man who he didn’t know in his bed.

He told police the man had broken the window on his backdoor and rifled through his belongings, including medicine, according to the police narrative.

The victim told police nothing was missing.

When he entered the house, documents say he heard the man ask, “Is that you, Jesse?”

The victim, whose name isn’t Jesse, then went to his bedroom and the man apologized, saying a man named Jesse had told him it was Jesse’s house, records say.

The man began to dress, but fled when the victim called police.

The victim followed the man until he couldn’t see him any more and kept police up-to-date with where he was.

Police then found Manley, who matched the suspect’s description of wearing nothing but a yellow shirt and arrested him.

An officer then showed the victim a photo of Manley “as he appeared” to confirm it was Manley he saw in his house, records say.

Officers found blood near the broken window and on Manley’s hand.

Manley told officers he went into the home because he was cold, the report says.
