PORT ANGELES — Bond was set at $65,000 Friday for a man who eluded police before he turned himself in to authorities at the Clallam County Courthouse.
Paul Andrew Martin, 31, was in the Clallam County jail Friday night on two failure-to-appear warrants and investigation of violating a domestic violence protection order.
A status hearing is scheduled for Friday in Superior Court.
Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith said Martin, who has ties to Kitsap County and Sequim, turned himself in at the courthouse and was booked into jail at 2:39 p.m. Friday.
That was eight hours after the 6:39 a.m. Friday call police received alleging that Martin had violated a no-contact order at the Red Lion Hotel, where Martin may have been a guest.
Martin saw a police officer in the area of the Red Lion and fled on foot down the Waterfront Trail, which skirts the hotel, and toward east Port Angeles.
“We chased him on foot and lost him in vegetation,” Smith said.
More than a dozen officers and a canine unit were unsuccessful in finding Martin over “a fairly large search area,” Smith said.
Martin has an outstanding $50,000 bench warrant out of Clallam County District Court 1 and a $15,000 arrest warrant, Smith said.
The $50,000 warrant is for violating probation on a fourth-degree assault conviction, District Court Administrator Keith Wills said.
The $15,000 arrest warrant is for obstruction.
