Man sentenced to prison for vehicular assault in 2017 wreck near Port Angeles

Crash sent two to hospital with fractures

PORT ANGELES — David T. Bolewicki has been sentenced to nine months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of vehicular assault in connection with a 2017 collision on state Highway 112.

Bolewicki, 51, of North Bend will serve one year of community custody after his release with conditions that include a substance abuse evaluation and a DUI victims’ impact panel, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced.

The State Patrol said Bolewicki was driving under the influence of marijuana and failed to yield as he entered the highway from Power Plant Road in a 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup March 9, 2017.

Bolewicki collided with a 2013 Ford Focus occupied by Susan Treider, 64, and Gary Treider, 66, of Port Angeles, troopers said.

Gary Treider was transported to Harborview Medical Center for sternum, rib and spinal fractures, the State Patrol said in the affidavit for probable cause.

Susan Treider, the driver, was treated at Olympic Medical Center for a right leg fracture and fractured finger, State Patrol Detective Michael Welander said.

Bolewicki told investigators that he had consumed two beers earlier in the day and had smoked marijuana the night before the collision, court papers said.

A blood test revealed that Bolewicki was driving with a THC content of 11 nanograms per milliliter of blood, prosecutors said.

Under state law, driving under the influence of THC occurs when the concentration is 5 or higher as shown by a blood analysis.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the main psychoactive component of cannabis.

Bolewicki was originally charged with two counts of vehicular assault. One count was dismissed in exchange for his guilty plea, court papers said.

Superior Court Judge Lauren Erickson on Monday sentenced Bolewicki to the high end of the standard sentencing range. The statutory maximum for vehicular assault is 10 years.
