Man investigated in coffee stand burglary

PORT ANGELES — A 29-year-old man was arrested on investigation of second-degree burglary after he allegedly broke into a coffee stand north of U.S. Highway 101.

Samuel A. Langley of Port Angeles also is being investigated for second-degree theft and second-degree malicious mischief, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said. Second-degree burglary is a Class B felony while the other two are classified as Class C felonies.

Langley remained in the Clallam County Jail on Thursday in lieu of $2,500 bond.

Sheriff’s deputies responded shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Higher Grounds coffee stand on North Oakridge Drive after the business owner called 9-1-1 and reported seeing a suspect on surveillance cameras, according to a press release.

The man was seen leaving the coffee stand and going toward a wooded area before deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies set up a containment area and located the man about 100 yards west of the coffee stand. A trail of stolen merchandise led toward the man’s location, the press release stated.

The man forced entry into the coffee stand and caused an estimated $4,000 worth of damage to refrigerators inside, the sheriff’s office said.

He also stole about $900 worth of merchandise, most of which was recovered, according to the press release.
