Lengthy police response follows report of suicidal man in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A reportedly suicidal man who threatened to start shooting if law enforcement arrived was taken to Olympic Medical Center for an evaluation after nearly three hours of police activity east of Port Angeles over the weekend, according to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

The man’s girlfriend called 9-1-1 at about 8:40 p.m. Saturday reporting he was suicidal, said Sgt. Eric Munger.

Deputies attempted to call him out of a home in the 2300 block of east Pioneer Road in Gales Addition by phone for about an hour until just after 10 p.m., said Munger.

Man found

Munger said deputies then found the man in the 2000 block of East Fourth Avenue, several blocks away.

Reports of the incident weren’t yet filed Monday and it wasn’t clear how deputies found the man, he said.

By 11:41 p.m. the man was in custody.
