PORT ANGELES — Riley Edge White, the Port Angeles man accused of violent assaults on a Clallam Transit bus, in the Clallam County jail and his Port Angeles home, has a continued court hearing today.

The review hearing was reset Friday because Clallam County Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Michele Devlin needed an update on a psychological evaluation of White, court papers said.

Clallam County Superior Court Judge Christopher Melly granted the continuance and scheduled the hearing for 1 p.m. today.

White, 59, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in two of his cases.

Held on $200,000 bail

He is being held in the Clallam County jail on $200,000 bail.

Port Angeles police said White attacked an 80-year-old bus passenger and the Clallam Transit operator who intervened in the assault May. 28.

He was also charged for attempting to kidnap the driver and commandeer the bus.

White was subsequently charged with custodial assault for allegedly punching a Clallam County jail officer July 11.

After posting bail, White allegedly bloodied a woman who rented a room at his South I Street residence. He was charged with second-degree assault for that alleged attack Aug. 27.

Not guilty by reason of insanity plea

White entered not guilty by reason of insanity pleas to the alleged assaults on the bus and in his home Sept. 30. The pleas were based on an evaluation conducted by Seattle psychiatrist Dr. Kenneth Muscatel.

Devlin requested a second mental evaluation for White.

Upon his Aug. 27 arrest, White told police that he has seizures because of a brain injury he sustained several years ago and does not remember his actions during his seizures.
