PORT TOWNSEND — A Gig Harbor man has been sentenced to 50 days in jail and issued a 60-month domestic violence no-contact order following a domestic violence incident that occurred in May in Quilcene.
Tove Cooke was sentenced last Friday in Jefferson County Superior Court following litigation from Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Chris Ashcraft.
Law enforcement officers were dispatched to a domestic assault report on May 14, according to court records. The reporting party said his girlfriend had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend the previous day.
The victim told Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy Alan Jorgensen that Cooke visited her property to retrieve personal belongings. The two had been in a relationship that ended about six months previously.
During the visit, an argument ensued over the ownership of property the victim had purchased with inheritance money. Cooke claimed ownership due to improvements he had made to the property. The dispute escalated, and Cooke became violent, slamming the victim’s head and face into a narrow table in the living room, causing significant bruising to her forehead and a cut across the bridge of her nose, according to court records.
Cooke also twisted the victim’s right hand while attempting to take her backpack and purse, resulting in further bruising, court records said.
Jorgensen uploaded photos of the victim’s injuries along with body camera footage providing a detailed account of the interview.
Prosecuting Attorney James Kennedy emphasized the office’s commitment to addressing domestic violence.
“Our office takes domestic violence cases with the utmost seriousness,” Kennedy said. “We are dedicated to holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring the safety of victims through robust legal action.”
