Forks man shot in leg

Victim tells deputies he may have interrupted car prowl

FORKS — A Forks man was shot in the leg by a suspected car prowler early Monday morning and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non-life-threatening injuries.

Clallam County sheriff’s deputies said the 69-year-old man believed he had interrupted a car prowler on his property about 3 a.m., but the man was not able to identify a suspect.

Deputies arrived at a home on Calaway Way at 3:24 a.m. and located the man, who said he had been shot in the leg while he was getting into his logging truck to go to work, according to a press release from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.

Most of the shots reportedly hit the man’s logging truck, but one hit the man’s leg.

He was initially transported to Forks Community Hospital and then to Harborview.

His condition was not available Monday.

Deputies secured the scene and located a semi-automatic pistol believed to be used in the shooting, according to the press release.

Detectives were working Monday afternoon to bring in a K9 unit to track the suspect, said Clallam County Sheriff’s Sgt. Amy Bundy, who added there was no indication of any danger to the public.

The case and circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under investigation Monday, Bundy said.
