Forks man sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison

Calloway pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter

PORT ANGELES — A Forks man who pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter last month in the March 2020 death of an infant has been sentenced to 8½years in prison.

The sentence, which also includes 36 months probation, was given last Wednesday, according to Clallam County Superior Court records.

Izaiah Calloway, 23, was scheduled to report last Wednesday to the state corrections center in Shelton.

After his release, he is required to attend domestic violence treatment as well as parenting classes and education. He also is to have no contact with children younger than 5 unless he is both sight and sound supervised. He will not be allowed to live with children.

Calloway also is prohibited from coming within 1,000 feet of the victim’s mother’s home, school, business or place of employment until May 24, 2035. He can’t possess firearms.

Calloway was arrested in March 2020 for the murder of a 7-week-old girl, Faye River Raven Yates, who died at a Tacoma hospital after being assaulted.

Calloway, who was 20 at the time, was accused of assaulting the baby at his home in the 200 block of Fir Avenue in Forks because the baby would not stop crying.

Calloway allegedly slapped Yates, squeezed her and threw the infant against a chair.

Calloway pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter after initially being charged with second-degree murder and second-degree assault of a child.
