Forks man charged after meth found in diaper

PORT ANGELES — A Forks man was charged with possession of a controlled substance and endangerment with a controlled substance Thursday after a Forks police officer said he found a golf-ball-sized amount of methamphetamine in a baby’s diaper.

Dennis Jason Wayne Fisher, 40, told police the bulge in the child’s pants was a bowel movement, according to documents filed in court.

His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. July 7.

Fisher was booked into the Forks jail June 25 for investigation of possession of a controlled substance and endangerment with a controlled substance.

Fisher was released from jail Tuesday on the condition that he has no unsupervised contact with children.

Forks Officer Joseph Solberg stopped a vehicle, which he believed was owned by someone with a warrant, after the driver rolled through a stop sign Sunday, court documents say.

Solberg noticed a small child in an unsecured car seat in the back, crying and screaming “mommy,” while hitting on the back seat with its right hand and pulling on the strap that would pull the seat down, court documents said.

‘Let me out’

Solberg wrote that he told Fisher he knew the child’s mother was in the trunk of the car because of how the child was acting. Then he heard pounding from inside the trunk and a woman saying “let me out,” court documents say.

The woman later told the officer she was hiding in the trunk because she knew Solberg was after her for a warrant.

Fisher, holding the child after she got out of the trunk, asked if there was anyone that could be called to come get the baby.

Fisher handed the child back to the mother so she could say goodbye and while hugging her child, she asked, “What’s in her diaper?” court documents say.

Fisher said it was poop.

When the mother checked the diaper, the officer noticed the top of a clear plastic bag.

After seeing the bag, the officer pulled the diaper back himself and saw what he believed was about a golf-ball-sized amount of methamphetamine.

The mother watched the officer pull the bag out of the diaper and yelled at Fisher, telling the officer “you know I wouldn’t do that to my own kid,” court documents say.

Fisher told the officer he “had no idea about the meth,” court documents say.

Searches

During searches, the officer found $1,382 and 11,100 pesos, worth more than $600, according to court documents.

Fisher declined to let officers interview him, but the mother agreed to an interview, police said.

She said she was not aware of the meth and wouldn’t insist on changing the baby’s diaper in front of the police if she knew there was meth in the diaper.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found 13 loaded syringes.

Fisher was convicted March 30, 2016, for possession of heroin and sentenced to one month in jail.

The Washington State Court of Appeals, Division II, affirmed that conviction June 13.
