Deputies arrest man in theft of memorial statue of dog

SEQUIM — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man suspected of the theft of a memorial statue of a popular dog.

Adam Lux, 41, of Sequim was arrested at about 8 a.m. Thursday for investigation of third-degree theft, third-degree malicious mischief and third-degree possession of stolen property, Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said.

Lux was a suspect in the recent disappearance of a statue of Stolli, a black Lab who died last August, from the 1100 block of West Hendrickson Road near Sequim.

Deputies initiated the investigation Aug. 3. Later that day, Deputy Mike Leiter received a call from the victim, who had received information about the theft and the statue’s whereabouts.

The caller arranged to meet the victim at a gas station, where Lux returned the statue in a cardboard box, deputies said.

The statue has been broken into several pierces, King said in a news release.

The victim provided Leiter with a photograph of Lux taken from the gas station.

Leiter arrested Lux after an interview at the Sequim police station.

Stolli was a fixture on Hendrickson Road along the Olympic Discovery Trail until he died Aug. 31, 2016, at the age of 12.
