Bail set for Port Angeles man charged with second-degree rape

PORT ANGELES — An 18-year-old Port Angeles man charged with raping a 13-year-old girl was in tears when he appeared in Clallam County Superior Court on Thursday.

Kevin Trae Richardson, who said nothing in open court but spoke through tears to his attorney during his first appearance, remained in the Clallam County jail Thursday charged with second-degree rape of a child-penile and second-degree child molestation.

Bail was set Thursday at $25,000.

“He crashed a party of middle schoolers, lied about his age, then drank with middle schoolers — including the victim,” said Deputy Prosecutor Steven Johnson. “He asked the victim, who was 13, if she was a virgin.”

He was arrested Wednesday on the charges and for a failure-to-appear warrant.

The party, hosted by a middle school student Oct. 28, involved numerous juveniles staying in a large tent on property in Port Angeles, according to the affidavit for probable cause.

The alleged victim told police that Richardson had told those at the party that he was 16 years old.

She told police she fell asleep and then woke up to Richardson having sex with her.

Superior Court Judge Erik Rohrer ordered that if Richardson posts bail, he is not allowed to have contact with any girls younger than 16.

Arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. March 31.
