Baby’s autopsy done, case awaits charging decision

PORT ANGELES — The autopsy on a baby found dead Jan. 20 in Kah Tai Park was completed on Wednesday and the case now awaits a final charging decision by Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney James Kennedy, who does not have the report yet.

Jordan T. Sorensen, 37, of Port Townsend is accused in the baby’s death. He will be arraigned this coming Friday, Feb. 2, on one count of unlawful disposal of human remains and one count of removal/concealment of a dead body. He remained on Friday in the Jefferson County jail in lieu of $201,000 bail or $210,000 bond.

Sorensen was charged Jan. 22 in Jefferson County Superior Court with the unlawful disposal and removal/concealment counts. However, Jefferson County Superior Court Judge Brandon Mack did not find probable cause to hold Sorensen on a count of second-degree kidnapping-domestic violence.

It still is unclear whether Sorensen was the father of the infant, identified in court records only as “OS,” or whether he legally was able to have custody of him, according to court documents.

The infant was thought to have been in danger because of the fear that Sorensen was unable to provide the basic necessities of life to the child, law enforcement has said.

Sorensen evaded police initially, but after police received a tip, he was taken into custody. The baby was not with him.

Sorensen was uncooperative at first, but eventually led police to the baby’s body in the park, they said.
